Your phone system — inside Teams
Caznet uses Direct Routing to connect Microsoft Teams to the public phone network. We provide certified Session Border Controller (SBC) infrastructure that bridges your Teams environment to our carrier-grade voice platform.
Your staff make and receive calls directly in the Teams app — on their desktop, laptop or mobile — just like a normal phone system. No separate PBX, no desk phone required.
Teams handles the features — auto-attendant, call queues, voicemail, call transfer. Caznet handles the carrier side — the channels, the call rates, the numbers, and the support.

A channel is a concurrent call — not a user licence. Your Microsoft 365 Teams Phone licence covers each user; channels cover how many calls can happen at the same time. A team of 20 people rarely has more than 6–8 calls running simultaneously, so most businesses need far fewer channels than they have staff.
Caznet channel cost only — Microsoft 365 Teams Phone licence is additional per user. Actual channels needed depends on your call patterns; we'll advise during consultation.
What Microsoft 365 licence do you need?
To call external numbers through Teams, each user needs a Microsoft 365 plan plus a Teams Phone Standard add-on — unless they're on Microsoft 365 E5, which includes it. Caznet provides the Direct Routing connection; Microsoft licensing is separate. We can supply it, or you can bring your own.

Common questions
-
Caznet connects Microsoft Teams to the public phone network via Direct Routing. We operate certified Session Border Controller (SBC) infrastructure that bridges your Teams environment to our carrier-grade voice platform. Your staff make and receive calls directly in the Teams app — on PC, Mac or mobile — just like a normal phone system, without any separate PBX.
-
Direct Routing is the method Microsoft provides for connecting Teams to a third-party carrier like Caznet. Caznet connects to your Teams tenant via a certified Session Border Controller (SBC), enabling your staff to call and receive calls from any phone number. Unlike Operator Connect, Direct Routing gives us full control over call routing, number configuration and failover — which means more flexibility for your business.
-
Yes. We manage the full porting process, transferring your existing numbers to Caznet so they ring through Teams. This includes geographic numbers (08 xxxx xxxx) and mobile numbers where supported. The first port is free.
-
Each user who needs to make or receive calls requires a Microsoft Teams Phone licence (previously called Business Voice). This is an add-on to most Microsoft 365 plans. Caznet can supply Microsoft 365 and Teams Phone licensing directly, or we can work with your existing licences. We'll confirm exactly what's needed during our initial consultation.
-
For most businesses already using Microsoft 365, yes — Teams Calling can fully replace a traditional PBX. Auto-attendant, call queues, voicemail, hold music and call recording are all available within Teams Phone. We'll assess your current setup during consultation and recommend the right migration path.
-
A reliable business-grade internet connection is essential — Teams Calling requires approximately 100 Kbps per concurrent call, plus your normal Teams bandwidth for video and messaging. We recommend a dedicated business connection such as NBN Enterprise Ethernet or Fibre Internet for best results. We'll assess your connectivity as part of the consultation.
-
Yes — if Microsoft Teams isn't the right fit, Caznet also offers a Cloud Hosted PBX that works with any SIP-capable handset or softphone. Our team will help you choose the best option for your business during the initial consultation.
